Kicking off my first week with the client was knowing that I'd still have to wait a couple more weeks before I can fully get started on working on things for the company. There was still the issue of getting all the credentials and equipment I need. I started with attending the new contractors' virtual orientation, where I was introduced to company policies and hierarchical structure. The orientation reviewed current COVID policies in-place for the offices, as well as next steps to get started in the next couple of weeks. One of the steps was to report to the office to get approval for a badge to access the database.
Meanwhile, I met the team I would be working with and asked for tasks to do while I wait for my permanent ID badge. For security purposes, I'm still unable to do any pipelining or manipulation of the data, so I was tasked with researching the functions and architecture of the Greenplum Database system, which the team regularly uses. I am in the middle of taking notes for the system to further my comprehension and understanding of the system.
Here's to hoping that next week will be more exciting, but given that Fourth of July weekend is coming up, it will likely take a little bit longer to process my paperwork.
